Our data: CC BY 4.0
Section titled “Our data: CC BY 4.0”Tables we make (subway segment times and slow zones, bus speeds and bus delay, and our archive of the MTA’s live feeds) are under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. You may copy, change and share them, for any purpose, as long as you give credit.
Credit us and the source the data came from. For example:
Subway slow zones from transitlab.nyc, built from MTA data.
In a chart, a line under it is enough: Source: transitlab.nyc analysis of MTA data.
Sources to credit
Section titled “Sources to credit”| Data | Credit | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Subway and bus feeds, bus speeds, ridership | MTA | MTA developer data and data.ny.gov |
| Bus lanes | NYC DOT | NYC Open Data |
| Taxi and for-hire trips | NYC TLC | TLC trip record data |
Taxi and for-hire trips
Section titled “Taxi and for-hire trips”The yellow taxi, green taxi and Uber/Lyft tables are the TLC’s public trip files, cleaned and with zone names added. We keep them next to our own tables so one query can join them. They are public NYC data under the city’s terms, not ours: credit the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission.
MTA feeds
Section titled “MTA feeds”Our archive of the MTA’s live feeds is our processing of data the MTA publishes for developers. Our part is CC BY 4.0; the feeds themselves carry the MTA’s own data terms.
Citi Bike
Section titled “Citi Bike”We don’t publish Citi Bike trips. Citi Bike’s data license doesn’t allow hosting its data as a dataset of its own. Download it from Citi Bike and credit Citi Bike.
No warranty
Section titled “No warranty”We check our numbers, and the methods say where they can be wrong, but the data comes as is. It is not official MTA, DOT or TLC data, and they don’t endorse it.
